Software May Help You Avoid Red Light Tickets

Tech Savvy Drivers Use Phone Apps To Avoid Tickets

DENVER — If you’re not careful, the cameras will get you.

Red light cameras at four of the city’s intersections have caught thousands of drivers breaking the law each month. In September alone, the city of Denver’s traffic cameras busted 1,150 people running the red light at East Sixth Avenue and Lincoln Street.

David Greenberg said he was a cautious driver but even he gets distracted. He said he relies on PhantomAlert software to help him stay alert.

For $100, users can download the product to their GPS device or iPhone. The software alerts drivers to red light cameras, school zones, railroad crossings, DUI checkpoints, and dangerous intersections. “It kind of wakes you up and makes you a little more aware of your surroundings and speeds,” said Greenberg. Car Toys said there are other products besides PhantomAlert that will also help you on the roads. “There is the Whistler, for red light camera detection, and the Escort,” said Jeremy Linehan, Car Toys. Despite the economy, the Car Toys manager said sales of these products haven’t slowed down. “I am selling on average one or two of the 9500 CI Escorts a month and I am selling on average 20-30 of the cheaper 9500 ix Escorts a month,” said Linehan. Police said they have no problem with the products either. “Anything that makes you slow down and think about what you’re doing while you’re on the road — we have no problem with that,” said Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

It works. It definitely saved me from a few tickets .

A+++ This is my second purchase. I am upgraded from the monthly to the lifetime for $100. I recon it has already paid for itself when it saved me from a few tickets in DC and Florida. DC is crazy with the speed cameras and well Florida… feels like they got speed traps every other mile. Luckily the guys at phantom akert have done a good job marking the spots. I now trust my GPS. Every time I get an alert I just slow down and wait to see what’s coming up. It’s nice to get the alerts just in case there is an ambush waiting for you around the bend or over the hill. Very valuable service and I will definitely continue to use. I drive for a living and I need to keep my license clean. I have had phantom alert on both my garmin and tomtom and so far its been mostly accurate with a few false alerts. Over all I am satisfied with database and its accuracy. Customer service has also been helpful getting voice alerts on my systems. They seem to know what they are doing and I also like the fact they use, us, the users to generate and correct the database. I myself have reported a few speed traps that I know off and edited a bunch of false locations. I like the fact that they allow you to contribute and correct errors. I have recommend it to everyone I know who owns a garmin or a tomtom. I downloaded it for my wife, kids and in-laws. You can do that if you have the life time plan.

Good luck and keep up the good work. Guys like me rely on you.

DC VA and Maryland drivers you better check your mail regularly for traffic ticket notices. Several months back I got a speed camera ticket from DC for $300 and two tickets from Montgomery County totaling $80.00. The DC one relay pissed me off as it was initially for $150 ( for going 11 milles over the limit on NY Ave)…. but I never got the first mailing so naturally it doubled. You cann imagine how pissed I was. They are making a killing with those damn cameras. luckily I fought the dc ticket by going to court and it got dismissed because mu license plate was over exposed and blurry on the ticket. They could not make out my tag letters and numbers clearly so they threw the ticket out. (Thanks to a spry I had put on a while backJ) any ways… a after all the wasted time and frustration I wanted to make sure it never happened to me again. There was no way in hell they would get me again like that. I had seen the phantom alert commercial on Fox 5 a while back and hear about it from some friends as well. I decided it was time to try it out and see if it works. I loaded it on my TomTom and tested it by driving past the three locations where I had previously gotten tickets, it worked… I got the alerts all in good time with enough advance warning. I also drove around some areas in dc, va and baltimre where I know are some cameras and speed traps and it was 100% accurate on the cameras but missed a few speed taps. Its now been several months and so far the service has been reliable. Zero tickets so far with lot of alerts and close calls. Its apparent now I should have got it a while back. It would have paid for itself by now. Ohn well better late that never.

NOTE: fight your tickets…you may just win. they are counting that you will just shut up, pay and move on. Look for defect on the tickets you get… like wrong date, wrong address, worng make and model, blurry license plate images. All of these will get your ticket dismissed.
